ASN Sponsorship Price Comparison (2026): What Sponsoring LIRs Really Charge

How much does ASN sponsorship cost? As of September 2026, published sponsoring LIR prices for a RIPE ASN range from €75 to €230 per year, with one-time setup fees between €0 and €60. The number that changes the real total is the €50 per-ASN fee RIPE NCC charges under its 2026 scheme: some providers include it in their price, others add it on top or do not say.

We could not find a published comparison, so we made one. Prices below were checked on 4 September 2026 against each provider's public website. If you run one of these services and something is out of date, contact us and we will correct it.

The comparison

Rows are sorted by the year-one total. Where a provider's public price page does not say whether the €50 RIPE NCC fee is included, the totals add it so the rows compare like for like; the published price is shown unchanged next to them.

An absent mention does not mean the fee is charged on top: if a provider confirms it is included, its totals are €50 lower and we update the row on request. Swiss franc amounts are converted at the ECB reference rate of 0.939 CHF per euro (3 September 2026). All prices are shown before VAT as published by each provider; where a page does not say, we assumed VAT is added. Our €130 is before VAT too.

How to read the sticker prices

The €50 RIPE NCC fee is the fine print that matters. Since the RIPE NCC Charging Scheme 2026, RIPE NCC bills its members €50 per year for every sponsored ASN. Sponsoring LIRs either absorb it, pass it through as a separate line, or price it in. If a provider passes the fee through, add €50 to its yearly price to compare like for like, which is what the totals above do. ServPerso told us on 4 September 2026 that its €100 already contains the fee, so its row says so; for the other providers we have no confirmation either way, so ask before ordering. Our €130/year includes it: the split is €80 service fee plus the €50 RIPE NCC fee, and there is nothing else to pay.

Setup fees change the first-year math. A €60 setup fee on a €75/year offer makes year one €135 before the RIPE fee question. Providers with no setup fee cost exactly their published price in year one.

Billing cycles differ. Some providers bill by calendar year regardless of when you order, which can shorten your first paid period. Check whether your first invoice covers twelve months.

Bundles are not always what you need. Several offers bundle the ASN with IPv6 PA space allocated from the provider's own block. That address space is not portable: if you leave the provider, you renumber. Provider independent (PI) space and leased space with clear contractual terms behave differently. Beyond the price: what separates sponsoring LIRs

Price is the easiest thing to compare and the least likely to matter after the first year. We suggest asking each provider these questions:

• Registry operations. Who creates and maintains your RIPE Database objects, route objects and reverse DNS? Can you change a route object yourself, or does every change go through support?
• RPKI and ROAs. Are Route Origin Authorizations created when your resources are assigned, and is ROA management included?
• LOA documents. If you announce through a datacenter or transit provider, you will need Letters of Authorization. Can you generate them yourself?
• Transfer-out policy. A sponsoring LIR should let you move your ASN to another sponsor without exit fees. Ask about the exit process before you enter.
• Response times and language. Sponsorship is a long-term relationship with RIPE NCC paperwork in the middle. A slow answer during a transfer or an abuse report costs you more than a small yearly price difference.

Switching in costs money at some providers and nothing at others: we charge no setup fee on a sponsorship change and the yearly price stays €130. The procedure itself is RIPE NCC's ripe-815 and needs no consent from the LIR you leave; what differs is whether the new LIR charges a setup fee on a change and whether it takes over your maintainer. Sponsorship vs direct RIPE NCC membership

For a single ASN, sponsorship is an order of magnitude cheaper than membership. Direct membership costs €1,000 sign-up plus €1,800 per year, plus the €50 per-ASN fee, so €2,850 in year one. Membership only pays off when you need your own IPv4/IPv6 allocations or hold many resources. Where Via-Registry fits

We are not the lowest published price in the table, and the totals show the gap is smaller than the sticker suggests. Our €130 a year is the whole bill: the €50 RIPE NCC fee, no setup fee, nothing added at checkout. It also covers work you may otherwise do yourself: your RIPE Database objects and LOAs from a self-service platform, route objects and RPKI ROAs set up for the IPv6 space we provide, and support in English and French from a RIPE NCC member.
